Horizant Replaces Dopamine-Based Drugs for Treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome

Dopamine-based medications are effective in controlling the
symptoms of restless legs syndrome (RLS) but can actually cause more harm in the
longer run by increasing the symptoms. So when the US Food and Drug
Administration approved Horizant in April 2011 for both moderate and severe
cases of RLS, it was welcomed by the medical fraternity.
RLS is a very
common disorder that not only affects pregnant women but the general population
as well with about one in 12 people experiencing symptoms of the medical
condition. Most people are able to get over the problem with changes in
lifestyle and proper medication.
It is important that people are able to
recognize symptoms and take definite measures to overcome them. For example,
